The train station at Järntorget refines and supports the urban fabric of Göteborg. The detail and materiality of the building is directly informed by a desire to facilitate a continuity between the public space above ground and the public space below ground. I achieved this by developing a simple module of construction which both constructs the underground space and acts as a stitch. The stitch houses all of the technical demands of an underground train station, such as electrical and ventilation requirements,and simultaneously allows enough flexibility to successfully negotiate between the new underground space, the earth, and the new spaces above ground.

By introducing regional trains to the already busy traffic hub at Korsvägen, many challenges and opportunities are met. The increased pedestrian traffic presents complex traffic efficiency and safety issues, and additionally the opportunity for a lively and iconic new urban public space. The new station will serve the unique context at Korsvägen, The tourist traffic to Liseberg, Universeum, and Världskulturmuseet, the business people to Svenska Massan, and the local residents of the surrounding apartment buildings.



The proposal ‘Circulate’ addresses all of the opportunities of the site. The circular forms of the buildings directly respond to the traffic on the site while simultaneouly creating an intimate and interesting new public space.

After being exposed to an atmosphere of experimentation and hypothetics for so long during my education, I had a desire to execute an actual project, to build something at a human scale. the project was contracted to me by my friends Clayton and Ian Salkeld, also designers in Winnipeg. 


 I worked and lived with my partner Carley, for 9 months (most of them winter) on the isolated Lake Manitoba, amongst some of the most extreme weather conditions I have ever experienced. 


The project was an incredible realization of the connections between design decisions, construction technique, and the sense of place. the cabin encompasses some unconventional ideas about the divisions of space as well as expresses a unique cohesion of the nostalgic and the contemporary.
